The “Wow! Signal - The Center for Planetary Science

Better sit down. The news is a big disappointment: it was not a communication from ETs. A two-year scientific investigation by the Center for Planetary Science has concluded that the famous "Wow!" signal of 1977 was due to a radio signal at 1420.25 MHz emitted by comet 266/P Christensen. Other comets apparently also emit at the same wavelength. The paper, published in the Journal of the Washington Academy of Sciences, ends with these words: "The results of this investigation, therefore, conclude... that the 1977 'Wow!' Signal was a natural phenomenon from a Solar System body." (PH)
